How to check that your PDF is not uploaded
RedactNinja PDF reads and changes your files inside your web browser. The site sends the editor's code to your browser, and the work then happens on your own device. You do not have to take that on trust. These checks take a few minutes and need no special software.
Watch the network requests
- Open pdf.redactninja.com in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer.
- Open the developer tools: press F12, or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac. Select the Network tab and leave it open.
- Clear the list, then open a file and run a tool, for example Compress PDF or PDF to Word. Download the result.
- Look at the requests that appeared. You will see the editor loading its own code, fonts and, for OCR, language data, all from pdf.redactninja.com. You will not see a request that carries your document, and nothing goes to another website.
To make an upload easy to spot, right-click the column headings and add the Method column. Sending a file to a server shows up as a POST or PUT request, usually close to the size of the file. Using RedactNinja PDF produces neither.
Read the security policy
Every page is sent with a Content Security Policy, a set of rules the browser enforces. Its connect-src rule is 'self', so the browser blocks the page from sending data to any other website, and form-action 'none' stops forms from being submitted anywhere. To see it, select the first request in the Network tab (the page itself), open Headers and find content-security-policy under the response headers.
The site is made of static files. There is no upload service behind it, and no account system that could hold your documents.
Try a tool offline
Open the tool you want and let it finish loading. Then disconnect from the internet, or choose Offline from the throttling menu in Chrome's Network tab, and run the tool on a file. It keeps working, because the processing happens on your device. A few tools fetch extra code or OCR language data the first time they run; if one reports that it could not load, reconnect, run it once, and repeat the test.
What these checks do not cover
They show what this site does. They do not cover software already on your device: browser extensions can read the pages you visit, and an organisation's device management or network tools may inspect traffic. Downloaded files go wherever your browser saves downloads. For sensitive documents, use a browser profile without unnecessary extensions and follow your organisation's rules.
The editor loads no advertising or analytics code. If you ever see a request you cannot explain, tell us.
